Buttons and Bows

“I admit it's tempting to wish for the perfect boss - the perfect parent - or the perfect outfit. But maybe the best any of us can do is not quit, play the hand we've been dealt, and accessorize what we've got."
-Carrie Bradshaw

I come from along line of accessory crazed women. For my mom its purses, aunt shoes, grandmother costume jewelry, and nanny diamonds. As for me, it all started with bows. Every color of the rainbow was adorned on a long hair-bow-hanging-ribbon spanning from the ceiling to the floor. There were holiday bows, dressy lace bows, and even my favorite cereal (rice krispes) bow. Obsessed. I never left the house without my outfit coordinated ribbon. Needless, to say whenever I see a bow it brings me back to my first lessons of how to perfectly complement any outfit and Bob Hope's version of Buttons and Bows.

Today I have inherited a love/infatuation for all accessories. The whole nine yards. The beauty of it all is that a pair of shoes and the perfect jewelry is what makes an outfit an outfit. An old t-shirt and jeans looks like a million bucks with a long chain necklace, high boots, and gold hoops. Rachel Zoe says it best "I die."

Here are some of my"grownup" buttons and bows:
Feast your eyes on this beautifully embellished Miu Miu satchel. To bad its almost more than my two months rent.
I admit, my love for leopard maybe be too much for some, but come on? These sexy Brian Atwood pumps make anyone look good in any season.
My favorite. I really have no words. This Chanel Sublime Deco Ring should be every girl's fantasy. All of my stones are in this one beautifully designed hand candy. Since I am in no place to spend a fortune on a ring, I will definitely be taking inspiration from Chanel and finding something similar at a flea market or resale shop.
A girl can dream.

Like Carrie, I will play with the hand I have been dealt.
Here are some fabulously frugal websites to help the average accessory phenom.
Go Jane- Definitely for the shoe lover. Hundreds and I mean hundreds of cute shoes for less than $40 tops.
Forever 21-Great for jewelry in a fix. Its my weakness.
Handbag Heaven- Starting at $15. All under $75. The holy grail of cheap handbags.
TJ Maxx- Who could forget the Teej? My absolute favorite place to find designer shoes, handbags, wallets, watches, and sunglasses on the cheap. My life would remain incomplete without this store.

To carry on the bow-wearing legacy, I recently made a hair-bow-hanger for a friend's sweet new baby girl. I am now in the process of making another one and thought that I would share my masterpiece.
