Artsy Fartsy: Christmas Edition

Ok, so you are probably wondering- why "artsy fartsy" I don't see any art? Make it what you want, but my husband always calls me "artsy fartsy" whenever I am doing any kind of craft. Therefore, this segment of my blog is dedicated to him.

This past week, school was let out due to Thanksgiving and currently I am unemployed. Free time is in abundance these days and believe me I have found ways to stay busy. Growing up I was the designated holiday decorator of my house hold. After we picked a tree, everyone disappear and I was left with tangled up lights and 10 tupperware boxes of ornaments. Nat King Cole played in the background, and still to this day I am never more happy then when I am wrapping gifts for my mom or finding the one missing light bulb.

This year Ross and I have no budget for decorations and are not willing to spend the money since we currently rent. Needless to say I used what I had. Here are just a few of the projects to tickle your fancy...

Burlap Picture Wreath:
I made this using a styrofoam wreath and leftover burlap. Just wrap burlap around ring and hot glue ends. I then used metal binder clips to attach some of my favorite Christmas photos. Stick pins would work and also black and white photos.
Cost- $0.00
Ornament Wreath:
I made this wreath for our front door using a metal coat hanger and different size silver ornaments from the Dollar Store. String the ornaments onto the metal hanger until completely covered. Then lock the ends together by bending the metal. I used ribbon that I already had. Its not perfect but I love the way it looks on our black door.
Cost: $8.00
Burlap Table Runner:
Used burlap (leftovers), ribbon (already had from last Christmas), and hot glue. Easy peasy and no sewing machine! Ross and I were given this buffet table from my family- its a great piece but I don't dig this dark wood. For now this runner will do to spruce it up but there are plans to paint when we buy a house. Oh, Sadie wanted to say hello!
Cost: $0.00

I am posting these projects on:

Hope you enjoyed this segment of Artsy Fartsy!

Hi MT,
Coat hangers are great, aren't they? I made a Christmas tree out of them one year. They were all the rage that year! Thanks for sharing and Happy Friday!

Blessings,
Sandi

Oops.. sorry for double post!

Oh yeah, that wreath is really pretty! Just pops against your dark door! Loving your other ideas too.

I know where you're coming from. I'm spending nothing for decor this season. Just setting up today in fact.

Thanks for linking up to SNS #6!

Cute ideas on a slim budget. The green ribbon adds a nice finishing touch.

Love the idea of the photo wreath! We're moving right around Christmas time (sigh) so I'm not going to pull out all the regular decor this year. I thought it would be fun to use some family photos on a table top tree. (I guess great minds think "FRUGALLY" alike, huh?)

Those are some fabulous finds! The photo wreath is too cute, and I really must make an ornament wreath this year. I love that idea, because you didn't even need a wreath form. Just a coat hanger...love that! And isn't burlap fun to work with? Thanks for linkin' up to Frugalicious Friday!

Love your craft ideas. The wreaths are both very nice, especially the photos. Wire coat hangers now have a great re-purpose. Love the burlap runner. Very clever.

Happy Thanksgiving.
