Tis' the Season

The holiday season always seems to get my "Artsy Fartsy" imagination flowing. Here are a few projects on the cheap:

Chalkboard Menu:
I bought a simple frame from the $1 store, spray painted the glass with chalkboard paint, and painted the frame in my fav blue. All for a dollar! I plan on writing the weeks menu when the chalkboard paint is dry. I love how it adds something to our unsightly apartment 70's kitchen.

Lamp Shade Makeover:
I've had this lamp all through my college dorm days and was in need of a makeover. I grabbed some fabric glue and my favorite Amy Butler pattern... "tah dah" beautiful new lamp in minutes. I love love love how you can still see the texture of the old lampshade through the new fabric. Beautimos!

Shutters:
I am pretty much obsessed with shutters. Ross and I are renters therefore no paint= no color. This is where the shutters come in- color and architecture. My first shutter was bought for $5 at my favorite antique store. After some scrubbing, I now use it to display some of my jewelry. The earrings are hung from the slats and I bought simple S-hooks to hand the necklaces. In our living room shutters flank the mantle and add that pop of color. Stay tuned to see how I used the shutters to display Christmas cards. Did I mention I like blue?

I hope you enjoyed my frugal finds!

I rent too and I know what you mean about needing color and architecture! I would love to find some inexpensive shutters!

I just found some shutters last week (8.00 for the pair) and hung them like you did on both sides of the fireplace (I pictured them on my blog). They do add that needed bit of architecture and color! I like how you used the shutter for jewelry as well.

I really like the lamp shade. I haven't tried this yet, and I'm such a fabric junkie...

Nice going on all those projects! Your lampshade sure is sassy now! And I'm a total lover in shutters as well, still on the hunt for some.

Thanks for sharing and linking up!
